According to American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, 68% of people admit that excess fat under their chin and neck is a chief cosmetic concern. In the past, the only way to effectively reduce or eliminate a double chin appearance was to go under the knife of plastic surgery. However, today’s advancements bring a favorable alternative to the table, and one that does not require surgery. Kybella injections are gaining fast popularity as the latest non-surgical treatment to address excess chin fat. Kybella injections are delivered just like Botox or other facial fillers or injectables. They are safe, minimally invasive and highly convenient for patients that do not want to incur the risks of plastic surgery.
Why is a “double chin” so common?
Facial aging is largely responsible. As we get older, our skin loses elasticity and muscle. Therefore, weakened chin muscles combined with surrounding sagging skin in the neck area and the law of gravity will create the unwanted “double chin” appearance as we age.
What are Kybella injections exactly?
Kybella, which is FDA-approved, is comprised of a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid. This is the same type of bio acid that our bodies naturally produce to absorb fat. Once Kybella is injected into the under chin region, it goes to work by instantly rupturing the fat cell membranes that make up your double chin. With the permanent destruction of these fat deposits, patients benefit from a dramatic reduction in their double chin appearance, without having to undergo a facelift or neck lift. It is important to note that Kybella injections are not designed to address excess skin in the neck. However, some younger patients do notice minimal tightening after the procedure.
How many treatments are needed?
Repeated Kybella injections are often recommended to achieve ideal results, but each patient has unique needs and responses to treatment. One treatment session can include up to 50 injections. For better safety and results, up to six single treatments can be administered no less than one month apart.
