Each season of the year offers unique skin care demands. With spring approaching, it is the perfect time to get your skin ready for the warm, sunny months ahead. In doing so, you’ll need to address any lingering effects that the cold winter elements had on your skin, such as dryness or areas of red, chapped skin.
When it comes to your facial skin, there are a few things you can do to prepare for spring.
- Hydrate: Go ahead and invest in a good facial moisturizer. The sun will quickly zap your skin’s built-in moisture so hydrating it at the end of the day is essential
- Sunscreen: Whether you find a make-up that has an SPF or you choose a moisturizer with included sunscreen, don’t neglect to protect your skin from the stronger UV rays. Not only can you avoid looking like a “lobster face”, but you can prevent skin cancer as well. Don’t wait until it is hot to apply sunscreen; the gentle warmth of spring offers just as much UV radiation.
- Exfoliate: The chilly, dry winter air can be extra harsh on your delicate facial skin. Now is a great time to gently exfoliate your face and slough off the dead skin cells to reveal a fresher, springtime glow. Don’t overdue it though; work up gradually to include a bi-weekly exfoliation treatment at home.
- See Your Dermatologist: Before you head into a new season, check in with your dermatologist. You can get a professional’s advice on which skin care products are best for your unique skin type. In addition, you may want to consider an aesthetic service before your break out your tank tops and flip-flops. Treat your face to a chemical peel, microdermabrasion or laser treatment for a more dramatic rejuvenation.
