Carrie Howell and Nicole Altamarino of Olansky Dermatology & Aesthetics joined host Bruce Feinberg on the latest episode of ”The Weekly Check-up,” which aired October 2, 2022 on WSB Radio. Howell, a board-certified physician assistant, and Altamarino, a licensed laser specialist and medical aesthetician, shared their perspectives on medical trends, the importance of seeing a physician for aesthetic procedures, and the benefits of miraDry and CoolSculpting.
Howell discussed the unique approach Olansky Dermatology & Aesthetics takes to ensure each patient is seeing the right physician that meets their needs. Having all skincare and aesthetic services in one location is a unique convenience for Olansky patients. The practice offers a variety of services ranging from skin exams to skin cancer surgery.
“We really work as a team. All the providers, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants sit in a huge office together, and we chart and talk through patients together,” said Howell. “We all work together and create a huge network that makes a great set of resources for us to have in hand at any moment.”
Altamarino touched on the role medical providers play in the practice and explained why patients tend to see medical providers instead of doctors. When answering a listener’s question, she stated, “The majority of people that we have running the modality are going to be our medical aestheticians. We’re the ones that went through the specialized training for that.”
Howell later discussed how broad the field of injectables is. Injectables vary in texture and thickness, and when injected incorrectly they can cause serious side effects. She urges patients to research and carefully decide who and where they receive injectables from.
“These are skills that take years to master and develop because they are real medical procedures,” explained Howell. “They must be performed by someone who is well trained, has lots of experience, and has full knowledge of facial anatomy. ”
At the end of the show, Altamarino and Howell answered listeners’ questions, defined “beautification season,” and shared how they approach patient consultations regardless of a patient’s aesthetic goals.
